Dawyck Botanic Gardens

In all the excitement of Treacle our wonderful new cat, I've neglected to blog about our recent trip to Dawyck Botanic Gardens in the Scottish Borders.

It's a beautiful wooded hillside, home to many interesting plants including a wide selection of ferns and lots of trees, many of which are covered in beautiful lichens and mosses.

Some of the stonework is also covered in lichens and mosses and indeed ferns

There are common spotted orchids everywhere round the gardens

A beautiful waterfall hidden amongst the vegetation

cute little fungi in the moss

The garden's collection owes a great debt to David Douglas the botanist and plant explorer

and lots of interesting hoverflies, including this handsome Volucella pelucens

And for those desperate for more photos of the adorable Treacle, here he is

Looks a lovely place to visit. I love the way the hidden waterfall peeps out from the vegetation.

...Treacle looks adorable.

All the best Jan
